According to https://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=0&FLIComp=0​&APIComp=0 (external link), what you are seeing seems pretty typical. With both set to 70mm and wide open aperture, the 24-70mm wide open is a bit softer than the 70-200mm. At the center of the image, there isn't much difference....there is some difference mid-frame and quite a bit of difference in the extreme corners.
