Hi I'm looking into buying a new camera. Right now I have the Panasonic palmcam SD4090 and it's just an 1.3 mp and I want more MP,

But don't no witch one to chose from there are so many out there and I have read so many reviews on so many it has me confuse. I want to be able to get close up shots as well as M control. I have a friend that just bought the Fuji finepix 3800,

And she don't no much about cameras either like me. And she's not that happy with it. Said you cant see in low light and night shots through the LCD monitor viewer she just has to guess.

But other than that she said is takes beautiful pictures in auto mode. She don't no how to use the manual setting yet. I want be able to see what I'm taking pictures of so what do you all recommend for me?
I have like 500.00 to spend on one.

And also my Panasonic, is slow at going to next shot I want one faster than it. You have to give it a few seconds to go to next picture. And I take lots of pictures of animals and you no you got to be fast are they are gone LOL. They don't stand still long.

So I need help in finding a camera that will give me all that. Can someone recommend one for me with a price of $500.00 are maybe a little more.

Thanks

Hi Gail !

Well i am sure you have been reading alot in this forum before joining. Of course it is your own decision what camera to buy or not to buy. In my opinion you may want to buy a G3. It is a great camera available at a decent price. As far as i know around the 500,- USD mark in the US.

I myself have the G5. Very simular to the G3 except for 1 MP more. I wanted a G3 but in my country the G3´s seem to be completly sold out and the dealers are´nt getting any G3´s on stock anymore. Only a few shops still have them on stock but are selling at a very high and unattrakkiv price. You should know that i am very happy with it.

Don´t wait to long because maybe the G3 won´t be available anymore in the near future.

Kind Regards

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the reply, Yes I have done lots of reading on this forum and more camera reviews on CNET reviews, trying to decide witch one I want to go with.
It's been hard making up my mine, There is my first choice is the Canon G3, and the Canon S50, I have read good reviews on them both But think I like the G3 better so far like the look and feel of it.

I did go to Circuit City yesterday and looked at some they had and I love the feel of the G3, and the looks.
I like the S50 but it's a bit small for me I like a larger camera as I have big hands and it's sometimes hard to work right if the buttons are so tiny.

So I like the feel of a larger one seems to me to be more like a camera the SLR type. Well, I'm still reading and looking around at everyone pictures here.
And have really enjoyed it. Love the Shots, some of them are unbelievable. What good pictures they are, Well thanks for your help.

Hugs ~Gail~

Hi Gail:
Most cameras today will do the job. For most pix a 5 megapixels camera is more then sufficient, particulary if you keep to no larger than 8x10s and moderate cropping.

The one most important thing in my mind is having the camera to take a picture when the opportunity comes . . . so . . . the old 35mm Nikons and Canons could not even start to compare with what my new Digital Canon A95 does and a fraction of the size.
Best thing is to go to a store and hold them in your hand to get a feel for them.

Other important features that I have found to be important to me are the following:
- Able to use both disposable and rechargeable batteries (AA are the most popular and cheaper to buy at places like CostCo)
- A swivel LCD. Mine has one, and is great to be able to take pictures at different angles without having to get into become a contortionist
- Zoom lens. 35mm-140. That is more than enough for most picture taking adventures, unless you were planning to go to Africa with National Geographic and wanted to keep at a safe distance from the lions :-)
- Tripod socket. Being able to attache the camera to a tripod for those low light situations

A good site to look over reviews is http://www.dpreview.com/ (external link)

And as far as buying, go to a place like pricegrabber.com and get a list of vendors with the different prices they offer. I feel very safe buying over the Internet and there is no question you get the better prices there. Don't necessarily go for the lowest price; check their customer satisfaction rating as well.

Hope this helps.

Tom
