NOW HEAR THIS!

The voters have spoken. They said:

#1: RDWP with 12 points
#2: Stiga and Jerry-R and NixEre with 8 each
#3: Trumper with 7

So it's applause for Rob and the other winners and a shout-out to all participants.

Bonus photo from the host:

Thanks, folks, for handing me the mike. And Congrats to Martin, Jerry, Nic and Trumper. All great entries; and thanks to OhLook for such a good, archives-searching topic.

Back soon with the next.

Great challenge - and brilliant interpretations. Always had a weak spot for good knockers - thanks Stiga!

Thanks, Jerry. The other loud sound in that scene was the pouring rain. My golf buddy could have used a bailer instead of his sand wedge that day. He still beat me by more than a few strokes, though.

Congratulations to Rob and the runners up! Excellent interpretations all! I liked this Challenge OhLook…made me think real hard to find a suitable entry! Well done!

I’m not sure if anyone but perhaps Martin and me recognized the call bell I used in my photo…it was a essential item of equipment at every hotel’s check in desk in the golden age of hotel elegance…Probably until the late the late ‘40s early 50s.

You never know what obscure antiques you might find in the Askew
household!

Love the Southern RR engine Trumper…my dad was a career Southern RR railroad man. I grew up riding Southern RR trains all over the SouthEast! :-)

Thank you. I think the bell lasted longer than that in places. I certainly knew what it was. You can also see them in old movies.

On bells, my church bell was the Maria Bell, from 1436 - it’s one of the six bells in Ribe Cathedral ( Our Lady Maria ) which itself dates back to 1150 - 1225 . Ribe is a wonderful West Coast old town on Jutland, Denmark, close to the sea, and surrounded by land that is now under the sea level. The biggest bell in the Commoners’ Tower is the Storm Bell. Used to warn the surrounding area in the event of flooding - or it was until around 1800 when they became worried that swinging the 3 ton bell was destabilising the tower! They use a hammer instead these days. Ain’t history wonderful !
