I have been imaging M101 off and on for the last 2 years with the 11" Astrograph at the Slooh remote observatory in the Canary Islands, a one shot color camera.
I tend to image during the new moon and hadn't done anything since late April. I decided on the 20th of May to image M101. After getting the data I filed it and went on to other objects.
Yesterday I read about the SN in M101 and decided to check my files. I had imaged M101 on 5/20/2023 at 00:53 UTC and CAUGHT the supernova!!
It is a very early shot of it.

Here is M101 before (April 23rd) and on the 20th with the SN! Rather be lucky than good!

Location-location-location.
Or in this case, timing-timing-timing!:-)

Nice captures both.

Clouds here have been keeping me from taking a crack at it.
Best

Nice catch Jeff. I went out last night for the first time since the SN was discovered but high winds and Murphy prevented me actually capturing anything of use. I did manage one 180sub that's out of focus (Murphy) and blurry from the 20mph wind gusts...

Have you imaged it lately? Just curious if it has started to fade yet?
