I know there are quite a few threads about travel lenses, but most are not very current. The family and I are traveling to Italy as a graduation present for my daughter: 3 days in Rome; 2 days in Florence; 1 day in Milan; and 2 days in Venice. As a GAS addict I have quite a few lenses, but will only be taking two, one of which will be my RF 15-35, for use with my R5. The question is what should the 2nd lens be: RF 50 1.2; RF 24-70 2.8; or RF 85 1.2. The 15-35 will be for every day site seeing and the 2nd will be for nights and more environmental style portraits (the wife has to have her photos).

I did a similar trip a few years ago and I mostly used my 16-35 and 50L. I was happy with that combo but next time I’d include a longer option just to get more variety to my shots. I’d like to eventually add a 70-200 F4 for travel to pair with my 14-35.

If I had your choices the 50 seems like the obvious choice to me.

I just got home from a 12 day Mediterranean cruise. I used my 24-70 most. The 70-200 was good for the ports. I also used the 2x multiplier in the ports. My R6 will convert to a crop sensor which helped in towns. Mostly in towns we were too close for the 70-200.

Thank you for the comments. I think when all is said and done, I am going to take the 15-35 and my 28-70 instead of the 50L. I looked back at a trip a few years ago where I took that combination and realized for a little extra weight, the portraits were some of my favorites (and it is pretty close to a prime).
