I’m going to look at a used Canon EOS R and the ad says it is mont with 29K on the shutter. I asked about the primary use and was told it was used for mostly video.

Then it got me thinking about shutter count vs being used for video.

Am I right to think like this? Should I go check it out or am I going to run into problems?

What type of problems do you expect? I suppose if the sensor had some ungodly amount of sensor on time it might pose a problem, but generally it's the mechanicals that fail, like the shutter. With video, the shutter is open and not cycling. I would check it out.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I don’t know what to expect because I’ve never had a camera that could do both. So it’s new territory for me. I try to cover all angles when I’m looking at something new to me.

It’s still a decent price to pay for used so I just want to make sure I’m not buying a potato.

I wouldn't think it'd be an issue. The only, only thing I'd think of would be if the sensor got hot, could there be any dead pixels? Or the batteries could be on their way out because batteries aren't so good when it comes to heat. 29k is low, but I'd go for it.

The same happens to an even larger extent with the more advanced mirrorless cameras. Right now, the R3 is the only R-series camera where electronic shutter is the default, the mode that you can use for virtually everything.
I've taken tens of thousands of images with mine, but the shutter count is still listed as <1000 shots, since I've used the mechanical shutter mainly to hear what it sounds like. It only counts mecahnical movements, not the number of images taken. Nor video.
