A couple of months ago I sold my Sony A7RIII to go back to Canon since I have nice L lenses and the 6D. I went back and forth on buying a new R6II or used R5 and ended up with the R6II. I wasn't sure if I would miss the extra resolution of the A7RIII but now I think I am. I recently added an EF 35L v1 and a EF 50L to my 24-70 L II and 135L and 70-300L. The R6II focuses great with the EF lenses but the quality vs the Sony is not there. I just did some informal test using my 24-70 vs the 35L vs the 50L and the zoom holds up great against the primes on the R6II, but I keep thinking how much better they would look on the R5. I used to crop the A7RIII and never lose quality which is the only thing I miss on the Sony. I have read the the R6II focusing is better than the R5 but don't know by how much. Would the greater resolution be worth the slight downgrade if any on focusing? I don't do video so the difference in the two won't matter much. I know I am going to lose some money on the switch but I am willing to if the extra resolution is worth it.

You're the best judge "if the extra resolution is worth it" so why not rent an R5 and decide for yourself. It beats ending up with a $1000 case of buyer's remorse.

I haven't used an R6ll, but I have no complaint's as to the AF capability of my R5

Perhaps Zee will chime in with a comparison as he's familiar with both.

I switched to the Canon R5 in July 2022 after shooting with a Nikon Z7 for 3 years prior and Nikon as a whole for 14 years prior. I was going back and forth R5 or R6 (at the time no R6ii). Went with the R5 for the higher resolution (like the Z7).

Completely happy with the R5. But I am now considering an R6ii/or R6 for weddings for the higher ISO capabilities.

With that said, I've yet to have any issues really with the R5's AF. (It's actually the reason I switched from Nikon, waited 3 years for them to fix their mirrorless AF and couldn't wait any longer - was missing too many shots). I say if you're a cropper (like myself) or at least like to have the option that the R5 is the way to go. The AF is still amazing on it. Only reason I would consider a R6/R6ii over a R5 is for the higher ISO capabilities in low light scenarios like receptions, etc.

Sony series with R doesn't have AA filter. I think none of Canon cameras comes without it.
No AA filter contributes to resolution.

Looks like Canon is the only manufacturer who didn't get it, yet.
