I find it interesting that there are all those "such and such camera users unite!" posts. Some run into the hundreds or even thousands of responses and millions of views.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have "such and such lens users unite" posts? After all, lenses make a lot more difference to images, than the camera they're used upon.

Gear database works well for this.

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php

Scroll down to the bottom 'Lenses Top 25' or search for the lens you're interested in and voila, links to galleries, best of galleries and posts with images from that lens.

I find the camera threads to be more helpful because I can learn from others who are using the same sensor, AF, exposure system, and controls that I have, and I can see what settings people have found and changed and what they're able to do with them.

Lenses are obviously important, but they don't have many settings you can change to improve your results.

Canon EOS R7, M5, 100 (film), and Sony α6400
I have an orange cat and a brown cat. In HSL, they're both orange.

There's already, both a Camera, and a Lens forum for each brand.

I can't imagine how a Lens forum for mixed Camera brand mounts would make any sense whatsoever.?

Why would a Canon camera user be interested in the performance of a lens that wouldn't work on their camera?

Because the inquiry might be concerned simply with the optics, because the user might intend to use a mount adapter ....

As a certified member of the photography community, gear is something I think about a lot. And with mirrorless technology coming into its own, it seems like a new camera model drops every few months. And as they do, newer old models become accessible on the used market. I do more watching than buying, but I do watch.

Part of that is looking at the camera-specific threads here. What's that $6000 box do? Must be amazing. But all the camera threads are the same. Good selection of amazing stuff, and stuff that makes you cringe. Plus everything in between. Model doesn't matter. You learn nothing about a photographer from the camera she uses. And that includes anything about her camera.

Most of us shoot raw. Once you take that through post processing, the distance between the camera and the final output is vast.

Cameras are devices. Devices get old and get replaced and the new ones are generally better. But the fundamentals are the same. If you could make good shots with your old camera, a new one will probably help some. But a new camera won't let you turn bad pictures into good pictures.

I still like the camera threads. The 90D thread is my favorite. Camera threads seem to have the best mix of pictures and words. Examples and conversation. I wish that mix would extend to other parts of this forum.

Lenses that are adaptable to Canon body's, are already discussed vin the Canon Lens forum.

Your reply ignores my first point. And, besides--since you posed it as a question--the subtext of what I'm getting at is that if we did a vin diagram of what any two photographers valued, more often than not, the overlap would skew. In other words, there are certain photographers interested in the performance of a lens that will not work on their camera.

Most of the popular lenses have a thread already, they just don't use the word unite.

The definition of "Blankety-blank" is "Damned", or "condemned".
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/blankety-blank (external link)

The definition of "such and such" is "unspecified".
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/such%20and%20such (external link)

So this thread is calling for condemned Camera users and unspecified lens users to unite in a discussion of?

So if your using a condemned camera with an unspecified lens, join in.

Sounds more like "click bait" to me.

Ha!

I kind of prefer the second definition...

blankety-blank (2 of 2) noun
: wretch, fool
—used as a generalized expression of disapproval
"that blankety-blank can't make up his mind whether he's for us or against us"

So if you're a wretched fool using an unspecified lens, show us your pics! :-)
