Hello,
I have a
Canon T3i camera and just got the
Sigma 16mm 1.4 canon ef-m lens.
Which adapter do i need to make this fit on the T3i? Thank you
That lens CANNOT be adapted for use on that camera.
In fact, there is no such thing as an "EF-M to EF adapter" and EF-M lenses cannot be adapted for use on ANY other camera besides Canon M-series mirrorless. They have a very short flange-to-focal-plane or "FFP" distance... 18mm. Your T3i DSLR has a 44mm FFP distance. You would need to remove the camera's mirror and fit the lens over 1" inside the camera! Obviously, that's impossible.
This is actually the case with all lenses for mirrorless versus all lenses for DSLRs. You can adapt DSLR lenses for use on mirrorless cameras. But you cannot adapt mirrorless lenses for use on DSLRs.
Return that lens and get another... something actually designed to fit and work on your camera: an EF or EF-S lens.
There is no "16mm" lens with autofocus offered for EF-mount cameras. There are:
- Rokinon AF 14mm f/2.8 (also sold under the Samyang name... same lens).
- Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5=5.6 IS STM
- Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
- Sigma 12-24mm "Art"
- Tokina 11-16mm
- Tokina 11-20mm
- Canon EF-S 15-85mm IS USM
- Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM
- Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM "III"
- and a few more.
NOT the Tokina 10-17mm or Canon EF 8-15mm or EF 15mm... those are fisheye lenses (uncorrected, heavily curved straight lines).
If you don't mind manual focus and manual aperture, there are a number of 14, 15 and 16mm lenses made in EF mount that would work on your camera. They can be good quality and reasonably affordable, but are considerably slower to work with (I do use a fully manual 12mm on one of my cameras for certain purposes, but for much use I need autofocus.)
P.S. Too bad you don't have an M-series camera. That Sigma 16mm is a very nice lens (although a bit large on a small mirrorless camera). I am not knocking the lens itself. In fact I have the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN for use on my M5. There also is a Sigma 33mm f/1.4 in that series, if I recall correctly. They are all top quality. Besides Canon and one zoom from Tamron, the only other company who ever made autofocus lenses for M-series cameras was Viltrox, who make a 23mm, 33mm and 56mm. They also recently introduced a 13mm, though I don't know if they'll ever offer it for M-series.
