Trying out my 24-70. I shot this one at 2.8 but probably should have closed it up a bit. I like it anyway. Please let me know what you think. Thank you.

Can someone help me with posting bigger images? What I'm doing now is uploading the image to my yahoo picture thing and then saving it to my computer and posting here. How do I reasize the original to make it fit on here? Thanks again.

Here is a search of resizing questions. I was looking for a sticky but couldn't find it. Give these a try, I am sure somewhere in there will be a helpful post.

EDIT: here is a link for PS.

EDIT #2: I found it. It was a sticky in the Forum Feedback section.

Not to be picky, but there is a lot of white without detail on or very close to the subject.

Do you mean the flowers that are out of focus, the over exposed parts, or both?

Look at your post and cover the image with your hand so that you do not see the image at all. Then move your hand away and back covering the image very very quickly - a fraction of a second. Towards the center are the image are the bright areas, in the center of the subject.

I think what happened was your camera opened up the amount of light becasue of the the darker background AND you had a small amount of sunlight on a white subject - all adding up to over exposure on part of the subject. Generally, meter the sunlight on the flower, open the camera one stop and take the photo. The white shubject will be the brightest spot in the image, it will have detail and your background will tend toward dark (er). All good things.

One thing that really helped me ... the image on your Print, Monitor, LCD or what ever will see the image differently than your eye. When you looked at the flower you saw detail in the flower and the image did not. The real trick is to see the image the way the camera and will show it BEFORE you take the photo so you can have the camera get as close to what you want the image too look like.

Does that make sense?

I LOVE these flowers...don't see 'em here. I like your shot too; don't be too hard on yourself. Llamaboy has a point, but if you shot RAW, you could alter the exposure in PS. You could have more DOF, but f/4.0 would probably do it. Try bracketing your shots next time. (Something I keep overlooking.)

Good work.
Paul

Thanks. I did shoot in RAW. I shot a whole bunch of these this year and they are still all over the place. I will post a few more after they are gone. Just got back from Kyoto but we were too early for the full bloom!

Crop it a fair bit, as its kind of lifeless with such a big background. Cropping it in will make it more interesting! :)
