After 37 years of not being one, I'm now a Middle School Science teacher again. Been challenging to say the least. Anyway, as I was going through lab equipment in the lab, I came across an older Rebel XSi. I charged the battery, everything fires up, but when I put an SD card in I always get an "card write protected" warning. This is regardless of which way the switch on the SD card is in. Anyone got any ideas on how to correct this?

Not sure why the camera was there, hasn't been used in years. Has the 18-55 and 75-300 kit lenses with it.

Card reader broken so it can't see the switch, perhaps?

Reformat the camera to factory settings.

Purchase and install a new SD Card, formatting it in the camera, and it'll probably be good to go from there.

Very possible, I’ll have to look inside and see what is or isn’t there.

SD card too new. Try to find an old SD card. Try to find a 16 gb or less.

I looked into the SD slot, took my knife and pushed on the button that sees the write protect position. Camera works fine now! Thanks for the suggestions.

Reminds me of when my cousin poked his Old Timer in an extension-cord outlet to see why the SkilSaw refused to plug in...

Curious minds want to know.....; were there any pictures on the old card ?

You can replace the knife, did you have to replace your cousin?

I wouldn't trade a good knife for my cousin.....Ignorance never kills people like that; they might get somebody else killed, but never themselves...

Wasn’t a card in the camera.

It's a pity. I had a similar case and found some great pics from an old graduation.
