When I bought my G3 some two years ago screen hood to fit were hard to find.
So I designed and made my own.

It had to be small
Self erecting
Very light
Strong
Severely limit the light falling on the screen.
Be non reflective.
Made from easily found and worked materials.

The materials used were …
Very thin black cotton used double thickness with iron on gauze for sides
1.5mm thick beech wood for front and backs
Triangular section beech 5mm on a side, to act as pivots for tension, and to strengthen wood and limit the light entry at view end.
Thin grey leather to make cover slips and camera protectors
15mm wide elastic tensioned for self erection
Black paint. for wooden parts
PVA glue.

The final product can be seen here…well used over two years.

.

It fits the G3 G5 and G6 but I dont know the dimensions of the G1 or G2

If there are any handymen out there I could measure and do a simple drawing for sizes etc.(PM me)

Regards Terry

Great invention!

It is a clever invention, Terry and really useful.

Till now, I was wondering if Woodenpic was your last name or a reference to your skills as carpenter :p

You remembered me of my father’s Kodak dual lens reflex medium format camera with a 6cm x 6cm frosted glass screen on top, housed in a similar hood :)

It is a name I have used for some time on forums, as it relates to my interests in woodwork and photography.
Saves me remembering which name to use:lol:
