3 years after the war started and my son has now just been deployed for the first time to Afghanistan. He's only been in country for a month. Being prior Marine Corps I thought I had a good handle on supporting our troops and trying not to be political but rather just letting our men and women know we still care about them. I guess you never really know what emotions are involved until it hits close to home. This is for my son, and those still there missing their own families!
TFL,
Karen

I have friends over there currently and some who have returned unharmed. We're all proud of our troops despite the underlying political mumbo jumbo.

I wish your son well and for a safe return.

Regards,
JR

My brother has been over thre times now and I'm sick with worry every time he's there. He's still managed to come safely home every time thank goodness. I swear it's only so he can carry on teasing me. I hope he stays safe for you. Big hug.

I'll be thinking of your son Karen. Our prayers go out to him, your family, and all the soldiers families. Thanks for sharing.

My son in law is a marine who got back from 14 months in Iraq last month.
My daughter couldn't even listen to the news while he was gone, she was so scared, and she spent years in the army and supports the war.

Great story behind the pic. Thanks for sharing Karen, we wish your son and all of the troops well. About the pic, I'd like to see a less close up view, how the ribbon relates to the tree.
