The more I look around, the more I keep seeing good things about the Feisol carbon tripods (seems like a lot of bang for the buck, keeps more bucks in my pocket for ball head and plates). My question is, which model will raise the highest without extending the center column? I'm only 5'7'', but I've never been a fan of raising the center, so the higher the better.

Also, do you have to order directly from Feisol, or do they distribute through any retailers here in the US?

For specification see their web site www.feisol.com (external link) believe it or not and you can get them in US via http://www.thresholdconcepts.com/photo.htm (external link) and all this simple info can be had in 3 seconds via Google!

I guess when I started looking at the max heights I never bothered to factor in the height of the ball head and then the height of the camera, especially with the battery grip attached. That seems to make up the difference pretty quick. I was starting to lean more towards the larger CT-3471, but it sounds like I would be OK with the smaller CT-3401N.

I have the CT 3401N and I am 5' 9 3/4" and if I extend it all the way, without the center column, I have to stretch to look through the viewfinder. Excellent tripod by the way. When I bought mine, though, it was actually cheaper to order direct from feisol that to order from their US distributor.

Absolutely, the 3401N would be fine for you. I'm about 6 feet tall, and with the ballhead and camera mounted, I only bend down about 1 inch! I'm very happy with mine.

I have the Feisol 3401 nand I have liked it .
Am I being too particular after you tighten the first section if you try to push leg back in and it goes in .I mean you have to push hard but it gives some .
Also if you push down hard after the tripod is set up you can make the legs give a little .
I tighten the legs tight too .
Thanks

That is the exact one that I have. I am 5' 9 3/4" and have never raised the center column. I would not want to either.
