Just got the Amvona Softbox http://www.amvona.com/v7/shop/?page=shop/flypage&view=1&product_id=2378. (external link)
It's really a good deal. $47 + shipping.

http://www.amvona.com …ge&view=1&product_id=2378 (external link)Tried to install it with my Excalibur 3200. Of coz the speedspring comes with the softbox doesn't fit. Talked to BKA photo about the SP systems speedring http://www.bhphotovideo.com …EG&addedTroughType=search (external link)

Somehow the Amvona bracket won't fit the SP speedring, SP speedring's diameter is 5 3/8 inch and the Amvona bracket has a 5 inch slot for speedring. Any suggestion?

I just measured mine and I have two types of rings. One for a octogon softbox and one for a 24"x36" softbox. Both of them have a plate that is 3 7/8 across that goes over the light and flash tube with two pins that twists into slots on the plate. The plate on the rectangle softbox is 6 1/2 across and I can't measure it for the octogon without taking it apart. Both can be rotated on the monolight although it doesn't do much good to rotate the octogon one since it is the same shape.

You should have two sections. The piece that goes around the modeling light and flash tube and secures to the plastic barrel that is around them. Then the softbox will have another section that is part of it that slides over the piece you put on the SP-3200 front. Is that the piece that doesn't fit?

Picture tells the whole story..

Here is the speedring comes with the Amvona softbox

And the chrome plate can be place into the Excalibur 3200, but the mounting holes don't fit.

The Excalibur ring appears to be unique and I don't think it is adaptable to other boxes. The Amvona ring appears to be the same design used by Chimera and Photoflex. They use an inner ring which is 5 1/2 inches in diameter. If this is the same as the Amvona then you should be able to buy a Photoflex ring for the Excalibur light and use the inner ring from the Photoflex speedring in the Amvona frame.

I've measured the inner ring of the Amvona box which is 5" in diameter. Seems like 5 1/2 inches is a standard 'cos that's what the SP system ring is. Seems like no luck unless I do some DIY stuff.

The ring doesn't seem to be the problem, it's the mounting plate that connects to the light. The Excalibur uses a cylinder that slides over the barrel of the light with pins that slide into slots of the cylinder. Then the softbox connects onto the plate. This way you can take off the softbox and put the aluminum 7" reflector back on if you want. I can think of a couple of ways to get it to work, but you are right, Desertracer, it would take some DIY work. Do-able but a pain nontheless. Did you look at the SP softboxes? They are good quality and reasonably priced. And come with the speed ring for the Excaliburs.

How hard would it be to drill holes where you need them?

John, it's not holes it needs. It needs a sleeve on it to slide over the barrel so it can latch on the 3 pins there. Or it needs a bracket that connects to the plate and slips over the 3 pins. Actually, it's two pins and a thumbscrew that tightens down as the 3rd pin and holds everything in place.

There is nowhere to screw to on the front of the light. Evidently what ever light this plate is designed for has a area on the front that it connects to. I don't think it would fit the Bees (they have fingers that come out and latch) and it wouldn't fit the Photogenics I've had. But there are a lot of lights out there and they all have their own design.

Ahhhh, I see. from the photos, I thought the only issue was the holes weren't lining up where they were needed on that plate. My bad.

John, I know because I have the same lights. It's not as obvious to someone that can't look at the lights themselves to see why it's not working. :D

That's why I said I can see a couple of possible work arounds, as well. A couple of metal brackets would probably do it, but it's still a pain to have to modify it unless the buy was an exceptionally good one.

So did we ever get a fix to the problem.... I have the Excalibur 3200 and wanted to keep it as the main light and put a softbox on it but could never figure out what I need to do that. I have also the Ultra Zap 800 and two AB400's. Any suggestions? I am looking to setup my studio with these lights for portriats. I was just using the 3200 and the UZ800 for fill then thought the two AB400's would be great for the background.

What? Why of course some of us monitor the threads we post in... even if they are 5 or more years old. ;)

LOL!!! I didn't even notice that. I was searching the web for info about my lights and trying to find out what options are available for softboxes and how to get them attached and was so excited that I never thought to look at the date.

Any how since you have responded do you have any tips or suggestions?

Yes true but you came so maybe others will check it out too! I hope so anyways I like my 3200 and don't want to have to back shelf it and buy yet another light.
