1d mark ii vs 5d

Ok I still trying to decide.
Looking for help so I am polling the audience.
I am in the market ready to by a new camera. I already have a 20d and am
looking for a step up. Since I can not afford a 1ds mark ii what is the best thing of me.
1. 1d mark ii or 5d
2. Here is how I make my money. Weddings, Youth Soccor, Senior pictures,
3. Here is what I love and want to do more of. Nature and Wildlife. I have
had a lot of interest in this work.

Here is my fear speed vs size. Publishers and stock sites tell me 300ppi and
they want the size, but everything else wildlife and sports say speed.
Weddings don't matter much either way. Is it better to have the Canon 1 serious? or can I go with the 5d and keep my 20 for sports and wildlife?

Well, I own both, so here is what I think would be best. Keep your 20D for sports and such and get the 5D for weddings and senior pictures. The 1DMII is an awesome camera. It can do all of your applications with no problem. It is known as a sports/photojournalism camera but it excels at far more. I have shot landscapes, portaits and weddings with mine. But since you already have a 20D, the 5D has a $300.00 rebate coming in two days, I would say get the 5D. 5D=$2,900.00 - $300.00 rebate = $2,600.00 1DMIIN=$3,999.00

I am in the same situation as calikoat (except for the fact that I am the proud owner of TWO 5Ds ) and I fully agree with him.

I have the 1D Mk II, it is a great camera and as calicokat said will do all of the above very well. But you already have the 20D and this will serve you well for your 'faster' subjects and will assist with reach on the longer lenses - perfect for wildlife. The 5D would be my choice for portraits and weddings and may even be the next body I get once it's superseded with a newer model and the price comes down.

I personally find the buffer size of the 20D limiting for action, when shooting RAW. The MkII will let you go on almost endless.

But if a 20D works fine for you now i suggest a 5D.

Buy the 5D for image quality and new technology - but be aware of the dust problems in viewfinder and sensor.

My honest take - sell the 20D, get a 2nd hand eos1d Mark II, and also buy a 5D (if your funds allow). The AF on the 1d mark II will blow the 20D out of the water, and AF is generally essential for wildlife and bird photography. The 1d mark II at 8mp is also able to create large enough file sizes to satisfy stock photo places. The 1d mark II will be fine for weddings and portraits in all honesty - you *don't* really need full frame.

I think I was pretty much in agreement with everone on this.
I am going to by the 5D(thanks for the heads up on the rebate)
I have soccer starting next week so once the season is over I should
have enought to sell my 20D and buy a used 1dMII

for the price of a 1D mark IIN, you can buy a 5D for landscape, wedding, large prints and get a 30D for wildlife and sports with it's 5fps and 12RAW buffer and reach.
Sell the 20D and you'll definately come out ahead.

Now if you needed the robust build or the 8.5fps of the 1DMII, then it's another story.

I don't think you'll regret the 5D---it's about ideal for weddings and portraits, not to mention landscapes. And I don't think you'll find the 3fps that limiting with youth soccer.

I think you misunderstood him - I think he's going to buy a 5D (for the weddings, portraits, etc), and then later sell his 20D and get a 1D Mark II 2nd hand, which I think is an excellent idea, as long as he can afford it.

I ended up buying a 5D over the MKIIn. If all goes as planned, the 20D will soon be sold and I will be making room for a new MKIIn. I have to have both.
