I see a lot of white 70-200's in the background on the news and such. You could always pick up the cheaper alternative, a Sigme 70-200 f/2.8.

I agree. 70-200 is probably the most used in PJ work, followed by 16-35 or simalar range for wide angle work.

Seconded. When I did newspaper work, I used the Tamron 28-75 & my 70-200 f2.8 exclusively. Granted, that's all I have, but between the two of them, I was almost always covered. The 28-75 is my walkaround lens.

Make-do with whatever is accessible ;)

But, ideally I would like a 16-35mm, 24-70mm, and a 70-200mm... that way, everything from 16mm - 200mm is covered, and you likely won't need anything over 200mm. Not happening for me until I get out of a student budget and a student newspaper :)

If you're on a limited budget though, pick up a 50mm f/1.8 -- I use one from 1987 on my 20D and it works great.

Hi

Yep agree with all these suggestions... although with a digy body you may need a 17mm or wider in tight conditions... I used to use a 17-35 but now have a 10-22mm....

Was never a fan of the 35-350mm a pig of a lens to use and so slow.....

You might want to add a 1.4 converter to your bag.. that way when you need a longer lens you can add it to your 70-210 zoom.

Zooms now are just so good these days, but go for the models with fixed 2.8 aperture... two bodies and two zooms covers you fro virtually every thing.. in the old day I used to carry 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm & 180mm plus three cameras...

Regards
Gareth

Basic kit is a 16-35, 24-70, and a 70-200. The most often used is the 24-70.
