Beautiful Spring Day in Vermont

Took a walk out on a causeway on Lake Champlain. Had the 70-200 on for the walk out (just incase a Champ sighting, lol) put the 17-40 on for the trip back. Thought this was interseting. I had the aperture all the way down to f/22 wish I had taken a few more at different stops... CC if you will please. BTW, I had to realy compress this to get it under the limit, started out around 400KB at the 800X533 size, the vertical lines do not show up on the TIFF.

Very nice. the detail is fantastic - sharp as a tack.

It's difficult to get a good shot with an almost infinite range of brightnesses. Would have made a good candidate for shooting bracketed RAW and trying out HDR.

Whatever manipulations you had to do to it are really working for you.

Only criticism is a personal one. I'm not a real fan of lens flare and I'd clone out that little bit at the bottom. Opening up the 17-40 seems to get rid of it (or at least make it less noticeable), but then you'd lose the diffraction rays about the Sun, which I really like.

I have a TIFF where I have done just that, no need to repost it but my print will have no flare, thanks for pointing that out.

I really liked it until I got to the bottom and saw the reflections and flare there.

My thoughts the same as the others. After seeing Miclke's version I would further darken/obscure all detail at the bottom. That would keep the viewer's eye at the top. Great shot.

I can sympathise with the removal of the lens artifacts in the form of lens flare. However, I think that removing the reflection of the sun ball in the lower portion of the picture not only detracts from the composition and interest, but is also not faithful to the actual scene. But, as you say, it's a curiosity that needed to be satisfied, and everyone has his/her opinion.

Exactly as you say Robert, just a curiosity. Just wanted to see what it looked like, and as I had done it I thought I might as well upload it.

The flare was an aberration, it had to go. The bottom reflection was part of what made it interesting to me, if I did not like it I would have just cropped higher. I am flattered that people would edit my photo, much less talk about it, thanks for ALL the comments!
