RAF Coltishall's flying operations stopped on Saturday, and was marked by a ceremony and some flypasts. A 9-ship Jaguar formation took off from Coningsby, followed by some Tornadoes and a Harrier. It was the first time I'd used my 300 in anger, and was quite pleased - although for some of the formations I dropped back to my 70-200 & t-con. You can see the rest of the set here (external link)! Nice shots, but you should explore the "1/50 sec environment" with the prop jobs. Take a look at Victor's pics here & in his gallery.

Hmmm... no prob jobs on Saturday - all fast jets! Oh - except for an air ambulance (if you count helo's) that caught me unawares!

oh yeah - and I'd already commented on the post you'd posted (still not sure of the relevance!)

Thanks all! :)

Well yes I did (nice pics), but as I've said - I can't see the relevance of telling me I "should explore the '1/50 sec environment' " when I've just been to see some jets and posted pics of them!

Dew,

In your gallery you have some pics of Helicopers so that is why photoguy mentioned the 1/50. It will give you rotor blur instead of stopping motion. That way it looks more natural rathering than a Helo just floating in the sky. He wasn't talking about the jet pics.

OK - I was thinking 'props' rather than 'rotors'. As I mentioned, the 'copter caught me unawares (it was windy as hell, and couldn't hear it coming) so it was overhead, with my camera set in AV mode for the jets when I saw it. If I was a bit more with it, I would have switched to TV mode, but there you are. I haven't got many prop pics, but I hope you'll see they're generally lower shutter speeds....
