I think the 85mm - 135mm gap is usually filled with a zoom, and there's always the non-L 100 f/2. I guess on the tele side of the range, it's less important with very close focal lengths. There's nothing between the 200 f/2L and 300 f/2.8L either. Having too many heavy L primes in your bag might actually hurt your back ;)

Just my thoughts.

For wedding work, a 100mm f1.4 L would be a huge bonus. Many of us are moving from slow zooms (comparitively) to uber-fast primes. The current 135L is a little long and quite slow when compared to the amazingly fast 85 f1.2. A 100mm f1.4 would easily bridge that gap. The 100mm f2 is a great lens but it's quite slow in comparison to the 85 f1.2.
If you aren't a fast prime shooter, then you probably won't see my point. In dim churches f2.8 is often too slow. Bumping the ISO hurts IQ. I can see a strong market for a 100L in the wedding community.

I'm guessing you mean in terms of aperture, because the 135 is MUCH faster at focusing.

Yes, an old habit of mine, calling large aperture lenses "fast"...soz.
Yes the 135L is a lot "faster" in respect to it's AF performance.

Well that's the lingo I've been brought up on as well... fast lenses = lenses with large max apertures :)

Shouldn't a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L with IS be on the main list?
They seem to offer an IS version and a non-IS version of the f4.

Tks.
:)

It should be, but it didn't exist when this thread was started in 2004 ;)

Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS
is not on the list.

Since I have read alot of good comments about this relatively cheap starter telezoom lens, I guess its worth putting it on the list just to complete it since its stickied and new comers like me will check :)

this is my first post btw lol :P hi

EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

Newer lens. I swapped it for the kit lens when I bought my T1i.

Thanks,

Mike

There are other alternatives to these lenses, that are efs that will fit on ef bodies with great results, for example I use my canon EFS 10-22 on my MKIIN or MKII, 10D, etc.. its a fantastic alternative to buying the 16-35 if u have this lens already, as its very difficult to find WA for the MKII. other lenses which work are the EFS 18-55is or standard, EFS 55-250, again this is for those that have these lenses and want to use on both cams. here is a link for the simple mods which make them work.

1. Wow, talk about resurrection. This is a six year old thread.
2. 85 is too long even on a FF to do group photos.

You are going to need a wide angle for group photos.

Well, it just depends on how far you can shoot from.

Apparently, Lanre is a new photographer trying to learn his way.

Welcome to POTN, Lanre. You can learn a lot from the many excellent photographers here.

it can...if you have enough room to back up...it'd probably be better to start your own new thread on the subject than to comment on this one though...most people comment on the first post and ignore the rest
