May 03, 2006 14:10 | #24 The second shot in that last post is Peanut's landing place from the first flight off the nest. It was hystarical! Peanut took off and headed... well wherever the wings would carry, up up and smack into the overhang, then headed into the corner and through a couple spider webs and finally to that spot on one of the older fern branches. Popcorn didn't fare so well.. Popcorn grew anxious, called out for Peanut several times then powered up the wing department and headed out, unpracticed... Flew through the open door and towards the light and finally ended up on the bookshelf in the corner. The cat took notice of this and figured on having a lively snack but I was on duty, so the cat got stuffed into the bathroom, I took a couple shots of the bird on the bookshelf, then carried it out towards the nest... When I approached the nest it insisted on not wanting to see that place again, the closer I got to the nest the more it got ansi and decided to fly off into the yard somewhere, I lost site of it after that due to it being dark.. I grabbed a flashlight, followed some buzzing noises into a tree and found peanut stuck onto the side of the tree using mostly claws to make it up the trunk to a branch to perch on, I heard some buzzing in the bushes on the other side of the yard but couldn't see anything with the flash light.. I guess it was Popcorn exploring the flower bed, anyway thats the end of the story.

May 04, 2006 04:20 | #27 Thanks for the comments, The parent bird has returned after two days of the little humming birds leaving the nest and has started picking at her old nest, placing bits of the old nest as the foundation for TWO other new nests on another branch of the fern not more than a few inches away from eachother. She's off her rocker this time..

She is nuts!
