I guess this means its all me and my hand-held technique...Please correct me if I am reading this wrong. Although I thought the DOF would be more shallow. This is a 100% crop, camera is about 2 meters from target at 45° angle, no flash, 200mm wide open f/2.8.

I guess I may have left out a little information, I have been trying to figure out what has been making my images with my new 70-200mm lens seem soft.<insert above text here> Aside from the very cloudy days this past week I will blame it all on my hands. I am looking forward to a sunny weekend...;)

Sorry if you've already tried this, but what were the results of the test with a tripod? Or is this the test with a tripod?

This is a tripod test, mirror lock-up and timer. No one walking around in the house either. Large jpeg, 100% crop, no processing except compression to reach <100KB.
Does this image seem soft? I have tried this same test with 2 other lenses and they are all about the same. If I use flash its a bit brighter but no sharper.

I came from an old crappy 1MP kodak to the 20D and it is SO much better, now that I see what other cameras in its class are producing I am not so sure it is up to standard. Are there other tests I can do short of trying another body on these lenses? Warranty has expired so if there is a problem I need to pay for it and there are no local shops that do the work they all ship out of state.

Took the same shot with my wife's SD400, though getting the focus point to center was tough, it would lock on abit lower than center. tripod, auto settings, 100% crop, compressed for size of file.

Help please...

I just went to Best Buy and brought my gear, asked if I could take a few test shots with my own lens the guy says yes and I got this using their 5D and my 70-200 L.

I need an opinion here, another few sets of eyes. I used the same exact process, 100% crop.
