I was hoping we could start a list with the best/most important plugins that you can't live without (or at least highly reccomend). A sort of "to-get" list for people who are new to photoshop or to cs2.

Here's what we've got so far:
NeatImage Plugin
Kodak ROC pro
Genuine Fractals
Noise Ninja
Virtual Photographer
The Imaging Factory...B&W conversion
AV bros page curl
Fred Miranda's Plugins (especially the B&W)
Nik Color Efex 2.0
Panos FX
Retouche Pro
AutoFX

you can google any of these very easily.

I second that! I also like Kodak ROC pro and Genuine Fractals. Very handy in certain situations, but I think I use NeatImage Pro the most!

My personal favorites aren't plugins as such but the sets of actions from http://www.mountphoto.co.uk/actions.htm (external link) as they are easy to use and great time-savers.
For plugins take a look at http://www.plugsnpixels.com/ (external link) for a comprehensive (and impartial) listing.

The only plug-ins I have in Photoshop at the moment are Noise Ninja (external link) (Pro Bundle in my case as I often work in 16 bit and have a dual processor machine) and PTLens (external link). I think most of us are familiar with Noise Ninja. PTLens isn't something I always use, and I suspect it doesn't compete with the latest version of DxO Optics Pro, but it's much cheaper than the DxO package and produces excellent results particularly for wide angle images.

Seeing Tim mention Virtual Photographer (external link) inspires me to download and install it, as it's free.

Both PTLens and Virtual Photographer are Windows only.

I also have some scripts installed. I have Mike's Framer CS2 (external link), The Light's Right Professional Mask Toolkit (external link) and The Light's Right Professional Sharpening Toolkit (external link).

I think most of us are familiar with Mike's Framer (Mike is mickle here on the forums) - it's a quick and easy way to apply matting and titling in Photoshop, whilst having tremendous power. I certainly don't begrudge the small fee charged, especially as Mike cheerfully emails out updated versions free of charge.

The two TLR script sets are extremely useful. The masking one I use for all sorts of things, including masking for noise reduction, and sometimes as a starter to producing masks of parts of images (the edges found can be a good start for a layer mask if you're prepared to get busy with the fill and brush tools). The sharpening one provides alternatives to a single Unsharp Mask or Smart Sharpen step for various cases - the output sharpening part often uses some very effective high pass sharpening techniques.

Virtual Photographer is pretty nice...I'm interested in discovering more...keep 'em coming. Av Bros Page curl (external link) is pretty cool.

The ones I use are PTLens, Noise Ninja, and Virtual Photographer - when I get CS2, I'll also get mickle's framing script, and the TLR mask script, and the TLR sharpening script.

While you mentioned Kodak's Roc Pro, The plug-in I love is
Kodak's Digital Gem Airbrush.
It usually does an excellent job on portrait type shots.
