Actually, the more you practice with and learn about PS the more things you will be able to do on your own..... for free..... and some things even better than the plug-ins.

Yeah i'm sure I could but for quick retouching this would be really nice to have. I've been using photoshop since highschool and I still feel like a noob. Sad thing is people pay me to do it!

Well, you're probably waaaay more advanced than I am..... it is powerful and complex s/w and you can easily take the better part of a lifetime to become proficient with it. I've only been using it for 2 years and really feel like a noob:lol:. But the good news is that people are paying both of us to use it ;).

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the products from Pixel Genius.

PK Sharpener
This is probably the best sharpening workflow tool available

Photo Kit Color
This applies precise color corrections, automatic color balancing and creative coloring effects.

More here : http://www.pixelgenius.com/products.html (external link)

+1 -- I just started using both of these; excellent products.

I think that this is true, because the add-ins are using code to manipulate CS3 objects.

What the add-in buys me is speed.

In particular, sure, I know a bunch of ways to approach sharpening in noise reduction, but when I need a quick 'recipie' for a casual batch, invoking add-ins really helps me speed up.

(Yes, as someone said, they're slower than actions, but I don't care because I let the batch pass overnight)

If this was the case, plugins would just be a collection of Photoshop actions. Plugins actually run their own algorithms which may be entirely different from anything in Photoshop, and therefore I'd argue that the notion that you can do anything with just Photoshop that you can do with a plugin is actually false. You can certainly do a lot, or even all of what a lot of plugins do natively - the Nik Color Efex stuff springs to mind, all of which can be accomplished without the plugin, but in terms of what something like Imagenomic Noiseware Professional is doing, or some of the freaky-deaky fractal generation plugins, I'd say you'd be INCREDIBLY hard pushed to replicate those results with the standalone Photoshop app.

At my job, I use ePaperPress PTLens to do fast adjustments to real estate photos. I have about a week to review and process/crop/adjust nearly 2,000 photos and this plugin makes the job easier.

Ok, I'm willing to be wrong.

OnOne Phototools

Fuji X100 / Sony NEX-7 / Contax G 45mm f/2 / The ghosts of 3 Canon bodies past / A meagre amount of talent
