Anyone know where I could buy/order the Hakuba 43mm Lens Adapter for Canon G1/G2?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know why you'd need a specific brand name as it's only a hollow tube. Try the Filter Connection at www.2filter.com (external link) - they have adapters in various sizes. I've bought all of my G1 filters from them - quick service, reasonable prices, good selection.

The Hakuba version is the only brand I came across that comes in the 43mm accessory size. I have the original Canon 58mm but need the smaller sized tube to mount exisiting Panasonic wide angle and tele attachment lenses which I purchased in the past for my panasonic video cam. They won't work properly with step-up adapter rings as you suggested.

In may be just a hollow tube but size does matters in this case. Even the original Canon adapter obscures the bottom part of the optical viewfinder and blocks the built-in flash partially at wide angle. The 43mm reportedly has the the least obstruction.

The other available third party lens adapters for G1 are:

Lensmate 49mm
Kenko 52mm
Raynox 52mm
Hakuba 52mm

Tiffen makes a 43mm adapter to go with their Megaplus teleconverter. Try Circuit City if there's one near you - I know I saw them there.

As for the viewfinder, your tele and wide converters will block a lot more than the adapter will, and you won't be able to see the effect of the converters in the viewfinder. You have to use the LCD to see what the lens sees.

Regards,

Mitch

Yes; very true but I keep the adapter tube on all the time, with or without the attachment lenses, so as to able to screw on a protective UV filter.

Thanks for the info on Tiffen, I'll check it out.

Check (by manually holding you 43 mm lenses in front of the G1) if you're not going to have a lot of vignetting!

You might also try to get a step-down ring from 58 to 43.

Andy
