Please critique this

Hi guys,

Went back to Clifton Suspension Bridge tonight to take a few shots of the bridge since they had put up the new lights to mark Brunel's 200th brithday.

I used a tripod for the 1st time with a cable release and feel happy with the results. Any feedback or constructive criticism is appreciated.

Needs to be roated clockwise by 2 or 3 degrees, and perhaps 5% cropped off the right, but I like it.

Ya know, if you have access to that, you could composite a really nice shot. What I would like to see is this sky* and then wait 20 to 30 minutes and take another. That (I suspect) would give some very dramatic lighting along the bridge footers.

*Or even one more richly textured with clouds, if you are just that lucky. But retaining this brightness.

I have taken on board what you said about rotating it a little and cropping.

Nice shot.

I would like to see more of the RH side of the bridge brought out - the pillar, if you shot raw could adjust exposure and using 2 layer bring up the detail. I notice there is a grass bank in foreground so would have to watch out that it does not appear.

I think it would better if you crop the sky in your original photo than the land. The land at the extreme left of the image at bottom explains at what height the photographer is, I think that must be there. By the way what you think ?

I am really pleased with this first attempt using the tripod and can now see the benefits of using one, especially with the cable release to reduce camera shake.

Would you suggest that I used a slightly large aperature to obtain more light or would this over expose the shot?

As you are using a tripod, I would alter shutter speed not aperture to get more light - set aperture higher to get more DOF and where the sweet spot is for your lens and then just set exposure using shutter speed. I would recommend putting camera on M setting.

I would also take a number of different shots at varying exposures as you can then blend from differnet pics. Use camera timer to reduce movement.

Hmm, a bit more off the right and a pano format to get the bridge out of the middle of the shot???
