Ok I deffentley have an auto focus problem with my 20d. I was hoping this wasnt true but today I looked at several photos taking with all different focus points and after each one I manualy focused and the image came out the way it should have, very sharp and clear. One picture in particlular was a picture of a face. I focused manualy then again auto focus. The picture I manualy focused I could see the hairs on the face the picture with auto focus I could not. Any suggestions?

Post pictures for the helpful people here to see and compare.

Did you try more than one lens?

I dont know if you can tell by the lip picture of not. I have other lenses yes but come up with the same problem.. I am afraid if I send it off for repair canon wont find anything wrong with it but there clearly is. Or at least it should be clear. Hehe.

Have you tried just using the center focus point? I know when I have used the multi focus points I tend to get more pictures that are not focused the way I want. The example that were posted, are they the full picture or just a portion?

The lips were enlarged and croped. I have used different focus points I get the same results. Just got back from Florida and got some good shots but 95 percent of them were just a hair out of focus. I know not all are gonna be perfect but the majority of them being a little soft is not what I expecting from a 20d.

The blurry lips are 1/30 @ F22 Vs. clear lips 1/320 @ F7.1. Are you sure it's not camera shake?

Tristan, I encounter the same problem. Today on a perfect sunny calm day I went to McDonalds...got a pack of fries and fed the seguls...had the 75-300 IS usm canon lens and the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens with...took 60 shots at f/4 and above at speeds of 400-1250 and the birds were standing still...braced my camera on the sill of the car and not one phots is sharp...ok but not sharpe. Used spot focus.....but one I did manual focus and .....drum roll.....it is clear. I have used a 10D in the past and have had stellar shots....not one keeper with the 20D yet.....still trying.

Thx glad to hear im not the only one. I guess im gonna send it in but I hope that they find something though. My luck thus far would be that they send it back with no repair made. hehe

I have thought about taking it to a Canon dealer, handing it to them with the lenses I have and take a few shots in the store...then printing them off to see thier look of puzzlement.....or then trying to sell me L lenses. It could be the cheapness of me to buy the 75-300 and the 28-75....I do see Prime lens shots that are outstanding with the 20D. I think I will save for a 50 F/1.4 L

Not the blurry one ... it was taken at 1/30s.
