This is my first time posting in People section. I don't know if this is a good shot or not. Any C&C will be great b/c it will help me improve. Please feel free to edit the picture. Thank you.

I prefer people to keep their mouths closed unless they are trying to make an expression that is beneficial to the shot. the top of his head is cropped out. is this a crop or is there another full frame shot with more of him in it? maybe that will show us what he's doing and give some purpose to the shot.

Yes, this is a crop. I will post the original below (unedited). I took this picture while he was trying to say something, thus his mouth was open. And, yes, he was infront of a TV.

Bookmarks Member 60 posts Joined Oct 2005 More info | I use USM 300/.3/0 for almost everything as a starter. I do that with a duplicate layer, so that if it looks too sharp I can blend the top image with the bottom to get a balance. Then I try to get a skin color that looks natural for the image. The color cast from the TV set still gives the right side of his face and the whites of his eyes a purplish hue. Level adjustments are always checked as a final step. The patch of aqua above the grey cabinets was a bit distracting so I cloned it out and cropped a bit tighter.

How do you use duplicate layer and use USM on it? Wouldn’t the top layer cover up the bottom layer? How do you blend the two images to get balance? What are the proper level adjustments? Is there a formula or general rule of thumb? Or is it subjective? Thank you for your help.
