I am getting ready for a weekend Christmas Shopping trip in Chicago and taking my T1i. I am thinking of getting this lens for the trip - my 15-85 is too heavy to wear all day around my neck, the kit lens doesn't do well in darker places and my nifty fifty not wide enough. Will this be a good lens for city-scapes and in-store pix, as well as night shots as we walk along the streets? Robin

Dec 05, 2010 09:35 | #890 So I picked up the Canon S95 but IQ could not compare to what I get with my EOS - so the S95 is on its way back and the EF 28 f/1.8 is on its way here! Will get in time for my Chicago weekend - it should be perfect! Can't wait to see more shots from others. Robin

At the beginning of this thread is a pretty bad example of CA (although I think it is a 100% crop). I like the idea of this lens but I don't want to have to CA-correct all of the photos. Image editing and C&C always OK

UPS just delivered this lens! I will be testing it out after work tonight and will let you know about the CA! Hoping it is not too much of a problem. Robin

High-contrast wide open, which you should expect, but otherwise I don't see a while lot of it. I wouldn't worry. Dec 08, 2010 19:36 | #895 Got my lens! I was apprehensive due to many mixed reviews of this lens, and let me tell you I am stunned. While I am still a beginner and have so very much to learn, I can tell you this lens way out performs the 50mm f/1.8. The color, the clarity, the sharpness - I didn't expect so much difference. I took a few quick shots outside before dark, trees against the dull sky, snow against the trees and really didn't notice much CA. But it was pretty dull out, so will test it in better lighting. Meanwhile I am excited that this is such an excellent lens. Robin
