I had two copies previously (at different times) and neither one exhibited "excessive" CA. At least, no more than my 35L ;)

Good to hear. The 2/3 stop loss hurts if this lens replaces my Sigma, but the AF reliability balances out the loss. I can deal with some CA but if its noticeable to an untrained eye, then I might be disappointed. I don't really have any other options though, since the L lens lose the portability factor.

In my opinion and experience, all of the fast non-L primes exhibit some CA when shot with large apertures in situations that would exaggerate the effect (tree branches against the sky, specular highlights, anything chrome, etc. etc.) but I rarely found that it ruined an image. I mean, sure if you go looking for CA, you'll probably find it, but if you can't see it at print size, why look?

I really enjoy the L primes, but if I had to, I suppose I'd be ok with giving up my 35L for a 28 1.8, it's a perfectly decent lens, and with today's amazing RAW processing, you can really push the envelope.

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of purchasing this after I buy my 85mm f/1.8.

I can't tell if this lens has better bokeh balls than the 50mm f/1.8 - can anyone attest that the bokeh looks better with this lens than the 50mm f/1.8's pentagon party?

Thanks :)

WARNING!: Before commenting that my color correction is horrible, please keep in mind that I am colorblind, and that hasn't stopped me from trying.

A lens' bokeh is a very subjective thing, far from a universal acceptance. I think honestly people get TOO hung up on how a lens renders OOF areas. I mean, don't get me wrong, I appreciate a smooth graduation from what's in focus to out of focus, but I've never set out to buy a lens because of how it renders bokeh. The internet has fueled this fire with fake words like "Bokehlicious" floating around and the obscene quantity of youtube videos trying to showcase a lens' bokeh abilities or "bokeh balls".

Honestly, if a lens is a focal length and speed that would compliment your shooting style and has good center sharpness, almost nothing else matters in the end. (Unless you're an Architecture or Landscape photographer, then you honestly do care about extreme corner sharpness, but they mostly live from f/5.6 onwards)

Just sayin'

I've been to the forest this morning ("au bois de Dardilly" near Lyon, France), before going to work... this great lens never left my camera since I bought it 3 month ago.
