Hi,

I took this picture this morning....tried to get background as blurry as possible... minimal pp(saturation), still learning my a610 and it's features. Hopefully the compression doesn't destroy shot...

f5.0
1/800
macro
vivid mode

let me know what you think of all aspects of the shot

thanks

You are essentially "at the limit". There is no way that I know of to have your image hosted on the forum and meet the picture size and file size guidelines and get any better quality. If you bump up the quality, you overshoot the file size. If you use a smaller than 800 pixel linear dimension, you can trade off the savings in file size for a higher quality in the compression. The only way that I know to improve on that is to add a second picture of about 1" x 1" size that is made as a full detail 100% crop of some critical region in the image. In that way the viewer gets the over view of the entire image but he also gets the 100% crop in which he can see the same exact level of detail in the portion of the picture that he would see if he had the original image file.

Regarding you posting, is f/5.0 your largest opening? If not, I think you might have opened it up and blurred the background even more without encroaching on the DOF needed for the blossom itself.

You're killing yourself by posting it at 800 pixels, especially when alot of that is wasted on an extrenuous border. Post it borderless at 600 pixels and you'll find it pretty easy to strike a tradeoff between quality and filesize.
