I stopped by my local spot after work and spent most of the time chatting with an old birder who asked me if I could ID some ducks. Well it took me a while to *see* the ducks he was asking about, but I took a few pics and we compared the zoomed-in LCD image to his birding guide. From what I could tell he was right on IDing the pair of American Black Ducks.

He then pointed out a pair of pintails. Very pretty duck. Here's the pair, cropped a lot:
And a 100% crop of the male. The 500mm + 1.4 TC ain't too shabby.
The man had some good eyes on him, that's for sure.
