Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM

I don't use this lens often but it's nice to have

I'm shopping for an alternative (i.e. ebay) tripod collar for the lens. I did a quick search and it looks like it can be a hit/miss. Any recommendations? thanks.

It's OK. Plastic build seems strong enough for how I would use it - not as robust as the OEM Canon ring mounts for the 100-400L, in comparison.

The fit is very exacting on my T3i: the ring basically has one position where the hinge doesn't interfere with the internal flash protrusion on the camera body while still providing a flat mount to keep the camera level in landscape mode.

It is a little awkward to mount: it uses an inner slip-ring that grips the lens body then the main ring slips onto that with nobbins to keep it aligned. If the knurled knob is a little loose it can slowly slip off.

It adds just enough bulk to the lens to make it awkward to pack.

Nonetheless, it does help balance the lens+body combo a bit better.

I use it for a while, get annoyed and remove it, then put it back on. Repeat cycle.

Thank you very much. Setup was a 430ex2 with shoot through boomed literally on top of my head camera mounted on tripod shot @ f11 no imaging stacking done.

Wow, I love those dragonfly macros, regnis. Lighting and focus are perfect.
