Thanks for everyones help. Idk why, but I thought I remembered coming accross somewhere in this thread about how people didn't like the results they got in lower light. But I think since I know Im going to be buying this lens sooner or later, Im going to go ahead and purchase the 100mm, and stick with the kit lens for now.

Reduced the size and some PP. No flash, F5 1/50th 400 ASA
Hopefully the Contaflex will perform as well.

I just bought the Canon 100mm macro lens here in Korea over the weekend. Looking forward to spending some time using it and hopefully producing some good shots eventually.

I'd like to thank Kevin Rudd, his stimulus package funded the purchase :)

Naughty, you're supposed to spend it in Australia then, what are you doing over there.
Hey, your cyber name, are you a fan of "the Castle"? It was just on the other night 'cause dear old Bud Tingwell passed away.

Would you lot say this is the macro lens to have?

Haha, yeah I tried to be a good citizen and order one online from Australia but they were more expensive by the time I got it delivered here.

I'm teaching English here at the moment. It's a contradiction in terms really in my opinion, but once you get the school day over and done with it's not too bad going for a hike and taking some pictures. After spending time with 40 kids in a class it's much needed relaxation time.

And I am a fan of The Castle :D I heard Bud Tingwell had passed away and thought of him in that straight away. I've made it my mission to show the movie to as many people as I can in my travels, so I've watched it a lot of times. I have it here with me in Korea.

Only if you are looking for the 1:1. You just have to look at the IQ and figure it out yourself, it is nice to be able to do macro and then shoot something else at distance without changing lenses.

I agree. THE macro lens to have, in the true sense of macro photography would be the MP-E, but the light needed, and the changing of the lens for anything less than 1:1 gets quite annoying...so yes, the versatility for of the 100 rules!

hey guys, i'm thinking of getting this lens, but it would SPECIFICALLY be for macro work. i do shoot studio portraits but already have the 24-70L f/2.8 and the 70-200L f/2.8 IS for that purpose.

so... before i purchase this one, is there any other lens (aside from the MP-E 65) that i should also consider. it has to obviously be a 1:1 macro lens...

cheers!

Sounds good to me. Aside from the MP-e, there is no other Canon macro, as good as this one. :)
