Rick passed this on to me:
Jon,
I don't want to start a thread about a photo meet that I most likely can't participate in, but there is a great opportunity coming up at the end of April. The Volvo Ocean Race, a round-the-world sailboat race, will be stopping in Baltimore and Annapolis at the end of the month for about 2 weeks. I went down to the harbor for it when it was known as the Whitbread, and for photographers it is a target-rich environment. You can start early in the morning and go until sundown and not be lacking for subjects. The Inner Harbor should be packed (maybe a good thing, maybe not), and the race vessels will be docked there most of the time (when they're not being repaired or maintained). There will also be visiting Tall Ships docked around the harbor for the occasion. There are events planned for both Baltimore and Annapolis, and it lasts 2 weeks or so, so there should be plenty of dates to choose from. This is the official site, google will reveal others: http://www.oceanracechesapeake.org/
If I make it down there it will be a last-minute decision, but I thought I would pass this along. You may need a local to ramrod it, but I really think it would be a great time for all.
Rick
The racers will be in Baltimore Inner Harbor from sometime this weekend (finish the Rio-Baltimore leg) until May 4, when they parade down to Annapolis. They leave Annapolis on Sunday the 7th in a Parade of Sail to the mouth of the Bay for the start of the Annapolis-New York leg at 1:00. May 7's also the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Walk. There's a day race Apr. 29 in the Bay by Thomas Point and Dragon Boat racing on Sat. 4/29 and 5/6.
