Spotted this guy out my window this morning. It's a song sparrow, but much lighter in color than normal. I took this shot through a double-paned window complete with dog spit, so it's not really the best technically, but I thought it was still interesting for the birders here.

100-400L with Canon 1.4x TC, handheld f/8 30

Unique sparrow without a doubt. So I'm not the only one with "dog spit" on the windows. Thanks for sharing Carl.

Nice shot considering the conditions, I've never seen a song sparrow that color.

It appears to be missing some pigment ...very interesting. Perhaps a partial albino ( I can't remember the proper term) . Nice capture!

Thanks Gary. I was wondering about the partial albino too.

Carl well done even with the skid marks. Our window have plenty. When you use your 1.4 Ex, do you have to focus or does the auto still work? I have the same lense with a 2X.

Tia,

Lynn

Hi Lynn. Thanks. I have to manually focus. Supposedly you can tape three of the pins on either the lens or the TC to trick the camera to autofocus, but I haven't been able to get it to work- or find REALLY clear instructions on it. I have a 350, btw.

Carl thanks,

That's what I found as I used mine Tuesday with my 20D and thought it would work. My eye sight is not that good anymore. It works fine with my 70/200L 2.8 though.

I believe it has something to do with the f value and the processor's capacity. I've read that if there's not enough light for the sensor then the AF doesn't work, though on Canon's more expensive models, 1D for instance, AF does work because of the higher-end processor's better ability to AF in lower light.
