Ok, I asked for it: I had told my family to tell me when they see a spider. But this was almost too much! I was having my morning coffee, reading the paper when my hubby walks in the door with a tennis ball tube in his hand and a "little" present inside. I thought I had pretty much overcome my phobia, but this guy was huge and creepy! I set him in a pyrex pie form and took some pics anyway:lol: . It is amazing how easy it was once I looked through the viewfinder and concentrated on what I was doing:D . Having my husband right next to my with a stick in his hand to protect me was definitely helpful.

I have a lot more/better pics in my flickr account (external link), it was difficult getting under 100k.

Thank you Brian and cgratti :)

This spider was really big, a lot bigger than a quarter from "toe to toe". The body was at least 1/2 an inch!

1/2 inch!! ............... I'd want more than a 'spouse with a stick' to protect me from that! I'd want Clint Eastwood with a Colt 45 in each hand!

Excellent pics, Bea. Not a trace of camera shake!

LOL, you don't know my husband ;) :D !

Thank you so much for your nice words. In the beginning I used a tripod but soon found it too limiting and so I removed the camera. By then the tranquilizers I had taken had kicked in ;) .

I think it is a relative of the European House Spider but a lot more aggressive, its probably a Hobo Spider ...

Nice shots Bea, interesting. It does have eight eyes (some spiders have only six or 4), they are arranged in a 4 small, 2 large and 2 tiny formation. I'd say it's a juvenile wolf spider myself, the closest I could quickly find was this one:

Probably a male, but it's hard when they're a juvenile to be 100% sure. At only half an inch from toe to toe, it's tiny! I'm about to process and post some spiders of a baby male huntsman hehehe, he's a baby and like nearly an inch from toe to toe :P

Wow, thanks Dave! If this one was a juvie I don't want to see him when he is grown up. But I think you misunderstood: the body is about 1/2 inch, from toe to toe he was somewhere between 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches, depending on how stretched out it was. It was freaky, I can't believe I was that crazy:oops:
