I went to our local park looking for some birds to photograph this afternoon and I found a red-bellied woodpecker drilling out a hole in a tree to nest in. It wasn't until I got home that I realized that I had unknowingly photographed two different individuals, a male and a female.

These were shot with a 300 f/2.8 IS L plus a 2x TC.

Male with excavated wood chips in its beak:

nice captures, it's a shame about the oof branch on the first one, but you managed to move it slightly for the second shot. nice poses on both, thanks for sharing.

These are really nice captures, Leo. I haven't seen our RBWs this spring - guess I need to put out their favorite food.

Very beautiful birds I am not likely to see in our area ( very rare sigthings). I like the second shot in particular. If used very carefully, the burn tool in Photoshop could darken the white line into the bark of the tree. This tool has its limitations but a soft brush (75) and hardness levels at 0 and feathered into the white line would not erase it but make it much less noticeable. Just a thought!

Gary Fairhead C/C welcome .....

Very nice shots Leo. It's great to see *both* of them with nice head shots. I get too many shots of the backs of woodpeckers...

Excellent images Leo with the 2X.
Looks like there are going to be a lot of cosmetic cases at GMOS:)

Thanks, all, for your kind comments. It's been a while since I've posted here but I'm hoping I'll make it here more often now that there's a forum dedicated just to birds. :)
