I was awakened early this morning, first by these brown thrashers singing loudly, and then my daughter who was anxious to see what the Easter Bunny left her!

There were at least three within a few acres, so I assume they traveled through the night and landed here for a rest.

I snuck out with the camera and got a couple of shots.

Number 2 might benefit from noise reduction.

Nice shots, esp. the 2nd. I love thrashers! Such sleek and pretty birds.

Thanks ngannet. I love them too, but they only seem to pass through on migration. We don't usually seem them otherwise.

Very nice shots, sure look different than our California Thrashers, yours have a much smaller length bill. I did play with the second image and took it through "NeatImage" which removed most of the noise.

Thanks Dennis. Do you have any experience with Noise Ninja? I tried running it through there (basic settings/auto profile), but evidently it didn't read the image correctly. Would you please send me the copy you adjusted so I can see the difference?

Thanks again,
Carl

A little noisy but still nice captures nonetheless. Great timing in #2. Nice work Carl.

Thanks cfc! I know the second shot is particularly noisy, but I couldn't seem to get enough noise reduction and still maintain sharpness.

I know what you mean......noise reduction programs can make things take on a plastic like look if overdone and the detail is lost. Still some nice captures anyway and the second shot in particular reminds me of some photos I took last year of this species but your shot looks a lot better than the ones I got..noise or no noise.

Thank you, Gary. Hopefully you'll get some good ones this year! :-)

Here's a re-do with a little more noise reduction (original below).

Here is my take on the second image neat image for noise reduction and a little re-focus using Focus magic and a little sharpening., your re-do I think is as good as what I did. The first shot is your original and my edit of it is the second.
