I was over at photoworkshop.com and discovered picture style(?) Apparently you can update your camera via download and this feature becomes available on your menu. They say that you can change contrast, sharpness, saturation etc. The question I have is what is the difference between this and setting your parameters? Are any of you familiar with this? Just click on the link and then go to the Canon link on the left to find it.

I believe you are correct.
Here is a good link for the page cali was trying to get you to, http://photoworkshop.com/canon/picturestyle/index.html (external link). It does talk about adding picture styles to other files shot in Raw with other cameras, but you have to do it using DPP not actually in the camera.

Maybe some update firmware in the future will have it included.

I have tried the 4 alternative picture styles currently available for download and they work just fine. Especially emerald i find useful but also twilight are fun.

The different styles are predefined color schemes designed for specific tasks like landscape and portraits. You can still control saturation, contrast, sharpness and tone like in parameters but the overall scheme doesn't change.

I think picture styles are great and they seem to save a lot on my pp time.

I wish there were more than 3 user defined settings... Right now there are four Picture Styles available for download and in the future they might create more.

Where did you find the fourth PS (Emerald?) I see only three: Nostalga, Clear and Twilight.

Yes, those are the only cameras currently that support Picture Styles in the camera.

But if you shoot RAW and use Canon's Digital Photo Professional, you can apply Picture Styles to your RAW files, no matter what Canon DSLR you have (it also works on my old 10D files).

You can download Digital Photo Professional from Canon ( http://www.canoneos.com (external link) ) - click on Support, Download Library, etc. Note that you can only download an upgrade version, you need to have some of the Canon software that you got on a CD with the camera installed on your computer to be able to install DPP.

Has anyone uploaded a picture style to the 30D? I only found info for 1DMKIIN and 5D, but no 30D.

I have all of them loaded, you can get the others for the 30D here

Nostalgia (click this link) http://web.canon.jp …oting/file/nostalgia.html (external link)
Clear (click this link) http://web.canon.jp …/shooting/file/clear.html (external link)
Twilight (click this link) http://web.canon.jp …ooting/file/twilight.html (external link)
Emerald (click this link) http://web.canon.jp …hooting/file/emerald.html (external link)

At the bottom of each page there is a drop-down menu, select your operating system and then select in the drop-down menu the EOS camera it's needed for.

How to install them, dead easy
