I'm only fairly new to these forums. I've learnt quite a bit by spending some time here just reading through thread after thread but haven't really posted any pics of my own yet. So I thought I'd show a couple of flower shots I took this week and see what you thought.

Here's two of a passionfruit flower from our vine on the back fence:

You are quite right about the first one needing more DoF but because I only have a G3 and therefore a working distance in that case of about 2cm I needed the faster aperture for light. I shot that third photo twice but focused on the pink flower in the foreground the second time - I didn't think it looked quite as good.

last three are good - I would clone out the white patch in #1 and lose some of the top. Something like:

Yeah I noticed how much of a distraction that white patch was as soon as I'd posted it. I did go back and fix it it up in the original. I do like your crop better as well.

Dimitri, thanks for your comments. It was taken with the G3 as that's all I have at the moment. I'm not far from getting a 30D and the 100mm f2.8 macro in the hope that it will give me a little more freedom and creative control.

That first flower is wicked...so neat. I've never seen anything like that. I'd like those greens and purples to pop more tho, but that's just me.

Thanks for your comments. I agree completely - I was playing around with it a bit in PS but I couldn't get the colours more vibrant without ruining the overall picture. I've still got a lot to learn about the tools in PS.

Dylan, superdiver and Mike - I appreciate all your kind words, cheers,

The passionfruit flower does seem to be good at catching people's eye. And just adding a bit of trivia - I was recently told that the name 'passionfruit' is actually derived from the symbolism the flower held for the Passion of Christ.

So there are still other people out there using their G3. It's good to know I'm not the only one.
