Took this on our recent cruise. I loved the view and wanted a permanent reminder.

Rebel XT, manual mode, kit lens, ship rail as "triipod" and held my breath.

What do you think :) ?

I like the idea. I took a quick look at the exif. 2.5 second shutter is probably too slow. I've done boat shots like this before and the thing you need to remember is that even though you feel like the boat is steady, it is probably moving a bit. You can see this from the double lampost right at the bottom of the shot. Next time, try cranking up the ISO and try to go for a quicker shutter speed. I really like how the sky came out.

I don't understand how mavericksupersonic got EXIF data. It doesn't show any EXIF data for me in PSCS2. Any comment on that mavericksupersonic?

I agree 100% with mavericksupersonic comments. Even having the camera on a tripod might not help if it is your own boat that is moving, instead of your hands.

I agree with the above comments, but nevertheless it is a very pretty picture. Now you get to go on another cruise to retake the shot;)

Even with the kit lens you could also bring the f-stop down to 3.5 at 18mm rather than f5.6. That would give you a bit more shutter speed too. You definitely have to go back and re-shoot.

Bob,

I used the Opanda Exif viewer. Lets you just right click on the image and select view Exif without having to download the picture:

Its a free download.
