Thanks for the help Bindii. These flowers are interesting in that they completely open up during the day and then completely close from late afternoon until morning.

had a Google but couldn't pin down; don't you have a flowers of S.California field book? I'd try harder if your camera was the prize for correct ID.

I'm in SoCal as well, but I can't say that I have ever seen one of these. Love the shot though, the bee makes it!

Thanks Bea. I don't really see them around much either but they just started growing at my friend's house. He's no gardener and has no idea where they came from, but they're neat little flowers so I shot 'em. Now if we could only figure out what they are...:)
