Here is an example of very good lighting, an excellent pose and near perfect compostion. The only thing I would change is to go from the approximate 1.47:1 aspect ratio to a standard 4:3 ratio by cropping in from the right. There is a bit more fence and background in that direction than is needed.

Excellent image with superb interest - congratulations.

The pole maintains a better balance than without.
The pole also seems to give better illusion of depth.
