What have I done?!

I'm a member of the 1D Mark II N club...

I think I need to go take a cold shower. First to cool off... Secondly, to test the camera.

After a long, long time agonizing over the 30D, 5D and 1D Mark II N, I finally decided today was the day. I'm sure I'll wake up tomorrow screaming, "I did what?!" :D

I'm screaming at you: You did the right thing. Congrats. Can't wait to see sample shots from it. I'd love to get that as my backup camera.

Thanks, guys!

That was just it. I've had my D30 for nearly five years now, and I know its shortcomings all too well. Just this past Saturday I was yelling at it because it was holding me up, waiting on the camera. So I kind of had a taste of prosumer kit, albeit "ancient."

I figured I could just upgrade to something current (30D) but of course, the 5D was interesting. Full frame - 'nuf said. But I don't feel I'm missing out that much as I'm used to 1.6x and since getting the 16-35mm, finally got a wide angle back again.

So of course, now I'm thinking... If I'm going to spend $3k for a 5D/grip, I might as well spend another $1k for all the stuff the 1Dxx body offers. It's not full frame, but at 1.3x it's better than what I'm used to. Besides, I don't make huge prints (not yet, anyway) so the 8MP is plenty for my needs. I just wanted something up another level. I plan to use this camera for at least the next five years, which made the price a little easier to stomach. Hell, I paid something like $2200 for the D30 back in 2001!

So that's my rationalization anyway. I wanted something new and decided that I wouldn't let the camera hold me back again.

But I'm still in shock. And I have no idea how to use this thing. :D

Actually, I'm engaged - but for all intents and purposes... I'm not married. Yet. :D

Funny thing though. Before I even left the camera store, my CC company was calling me. "Umm, what are you doing?" LOL.

I'm passing the camera onto my SO (see above) and may/may not keep it. I'll let you know though.

CP... Thanks for the links - definitely handy. I'm reading the manual PDF now (a first!) I already fired off some "air shots" at 8.5fps... Holy cow!
