Hi guys, just went to a camera shop yesterday to buy a 1 gig Sandisk Ultra II CF. The shop didn't have any left but the salesman recommended Kingston Elite 50X over Sandisk saying that he's never had a return on the Kingston but had several returns with the Sandisk. Another salesguy then chipped in saying that Sandisk costs more only because of the name.
Were they just saying that to get me to buy the Kingston? BTW I didn't buy the CF card.

IMHO they were feeding you a line just to sell the card. Look here & tell me what you think (you'll have to scroll pretty far down to find the Kingston): http://www.robgalbraith.com …ti_page.asp?cid=6007-7303 (external link)

I have 3 of the 1GB Ultra IIs & they have worked flawlessly for over a year.

I also use Kingston's Elite Pro. I'm not in that big a hurry that a few mil/sec mean that much to me. I got it because of the great price and known stability.

I have a Kingston Elite Pro as well and it works great and is very fast. No problems at all and I've never seen a bad review for one before. I don't think the salesmen were full of bs on this one. Go with the Kingston.

BTW...speed is not the only important factor in buying a memory card. I would say that quality, stability and dependability are more important. Not that Sandisk isn't good, but you get my point.

Four Elite Pro's in my pocket. Never have a problem. Low price, reliable, 50X is fast enough for me.

I use a mixture of the Sandisk Ultra II and Kingston Pro Elites. Both have proven to be of good quality for me. Yes the Ultra II will give you faster write speeds in SOME cameras (probably not the Pentax) and downloading via card reader. The salesmen were probably feeding you a line to sell the Kingston, but you still would have been getting a good card.

i think they were feeding you a line so that you'd buy something. if the sandisk was there, would they still have said the same thing?

Kingston are a fine card, but I don't know why the salesperson was feeding you a line. I've used both and many other brands but Sandisk would have to be my fav pick and has given me no problems with any of their cards. got a 1gig Ultra II thats done about 40k images. No sweat and have others that are getting old now but still never miss a beat

I have 4 1Gb Kingston Cards...never failed me once...And they cost about half of the SanDisk...yeah they are a bit slower than the Sandisks, but not enough that its going to cause you to miss anything.

I have 2 Sandisk Ultra (I/II) 512Mbs. About 50 - 60k shots through them. No problems.
