Oh, yeah! I'm a little disappointed that Franzen didn't capitalize on some of his other chances on the night, but the fact that he's still in the position to get those chances shows that he's still very much on the ball. :)

Uncalled for, yes, but it certainly didn't seem to be the shot that Osgood played it off to be. From the replay angles that I saw, I looked to me like the stick hit him in the upper chest/shoulder area and missed his neck, so I think he'll be all right and will be able to continue his stellar performance through the rest of the series now in Dallas! :D

Yeah, all the pro athletes seem to be drama kings/queens. I particularly like watching the Pistons...when someone gets hit or shoved they just go to pieces (any team) for effect. Rolling around and carrying on. Then less than a minute later they are up and whoopin dupa!

Not considering Ozzie "butt ended" Ribero 10 seconds earlier...

Dumb thing to do on Osgood's part. Especially at that point of the game (which may have been after time ran out. Didn't hear the description on Sports Center, only saw them point out Osgood's bone headed play then the slash as retaliation.)

I heard Osgood describe the move as a defensive measure to keep Ribiero from cutting in too close around the back of the net (presumably to hit Lidstrom). As a goalie myself, I can understand that reasoning, but at that point in the game I don't think there was going to be a big hit or anything that warranted such a move. All goalies pull that sort of stick work, but I do find it to be a lapse in Osgood's judgment to pull his stick so high when a body shot would probably have been as effective.

Ribiero's reaction was a bit volatile and illustrated what can be viewed as intent to injure, but he was right to be upset. Who knows, his original intent may have been to injure Lidstrom with the hit, but we can't assume that and will never know. I wish the whole event hadn't occurred, but it did, so all i can say is that in Dallas there will be blood - on both sides.

Seems both were fined but not suspended.

As for blood, well, so far, not so much. Sounds (listening on the web) like both teams are skating it out and not overtly playing the body.

I was happy to learn that both players received nothing beyond fines because they both would have been critical to both team's interests (which, I'm sure, motivated the league's decision). I'm listening to the radio webcast as well, and the game does sound relatively mild, to be honest. I don't know what it is, but this Red Wing squad has been great at eliminating the big physical play that seemed to dominate their past series and rivalries even that with Colorado. Oh, well, they're winning, so what more could I ask for?

Nice game. Kinda tame, but it ended beautifully!

One major difference this year (at least so far as I've noticed...) is that Detroit are taking the body whenever opportunities present themselves.

This was something they did not do those couple of years when they got bounced early. As big a fan of Stevie Y as I was, I think his "nice guy" approach (especially late in his career) took the Wings in the wrong direction in terms of the players they had at the twilight of Stevie Y's career.

This squad has a much better balance of European skill and brute force. Their worthy opponents haven't been able to devise a system that takes the Wings out of their game.

If they play slow down, the Wings have shown that they can physically blast you off the puck. If they want to "run and gun," the Wings have shown they have the speed to play that way too.

And Ozzie just looks so relaxed. Easy to do I guess when you're not facing any more than about 20 shots a game.

I think a Wings/Penquins series has the makings of a classic.
