I just don't get how Sigma is so second guessed around here. Every comparison I see, a sigma lens, at times even 1/4th of the cost, is performing as well and better in some ways then the Canon. Well, whatever, just noticing and complaining a little bit. ;)

Thanks much for the comparo.

Nice comparison, Romy. The Sigmonster is quite a fine lens, rivaling a prime's performance. Differences are generally small. Slightly different tint to the final images, but nothing really significant.

Romy, I just studied your pbase galleries. I don't know where I've been, but I've not seen your shots or comparos before.

I take back anything I said regarding your technique or choice of subject matter. You're a master. Congrats.

You know why this is right?
Its the zoom ring turning azz backwards and all the "PUREST'S" cant seem to cope.

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

Tom,

Indeed.... when one is considering either lens, sharpness would not be an issue (they're both super sharp). The choice would depend on zoom flexibility/longer reach vs lighter weight/IS/faster AI servo/one stop gain at 500/etc.

Did you give any thought to the 400/4 as your handheld, in-flight lens?

Gene,

I didn't consider the 400 f4 DO IS as a flight lens at all because it's too short natively on the 1DM2, very costly for its length and the bokeh issue.

Adding a 1.4x TC to the 500 f4 is IMHO on the verge of what is critically sharp, and a 2x on the 500 is a last recourse option. I don't think the 400 DO will take a 1.4x TC as well as the 500 f4.

I actually have two flight lens now - the 400 5.6L and 500 f4/700 f5.6 . What gets mounted on the 1DM2 depends on the size of the flier, its distance and flight speed.
