So I am meant to be studying, but there's ALWAYS something else to do eh?

SO I put together some old shots and made a gallery over at smugmug - heck I am paying for it so I may as well get my money's worth eh?

C&C appreciated.

Wow, #1 on that page is amazing. What structure is that with the five towers, and can you go up in them?

Nice series of shots. Istanbul is a great city for photography, if you are able to get to the right locations. When I was there, limited to tours, it was not easy to find the best place for shooting. I'd say you have done very well.

JT - that's the Blue Mosque. I think you probably can go up them if you speak to the right people - I didn't :). Incidentally it is actually six minarets - the sixth one is hidden behind the dome from that angle. (Apparantly it is the only mosque in the world with six minarets.)

Sparker - thanks :). I went on one tour - waste of money to be honest - they basically just got you onto a boat and led you places, nothing special. So I just went out on my own everyday - travelled to less known mosques which were just brilliant (the one with the white inside is a good walk away but just splendid - very serene).

I'm not saqib, but I *think* it's the Blue Mosque. I'm sure it's technically possible for someone to go up in the towers, but I don't think they're open for tourists.

If it's not the Blue Mosque, then it's probably the Sultan's Palace. (Apologies for the uncertainty; it's been a very, very long time since I've been in Istanbul.)

saqib - those are lovely shots. Is the building with the carpeting San Sophia?

Ya, great series. I like going back and forth from studying to cruising around here, heck I even do it during class.

BC - Thanks!

STL - nope sorry none of them are at the Haga Sophia - it was under repairs so I skipped it this time around. But #5 is the Yeni Camii (Literally: New Mosque), the second last is the Fatih Mosque (WAY WAY WAY up the hill in the suburbs) and the last one is the Sulaymaniya (?sic) Mosque (not sure if this is what people call the Sultan's Palace, but the Blue Mosque is also called the Sultanahmet or Sultan Ahmed's mosque).
