I wasn't talking about the last image. I think some spiders that are not called "jumping spiders" can jump. Most spiders are pretty good at jumping as well (when they have to at least). The last one doesn't look very nice, reminds me of the Sydney Funnel Web spider - how big was he (looks like a he because of the size or the palps, and they seem to come to sharp claws at the end as well, which are both male traits). The abdomen though is unusually swollen for a male. Did he have any webs around, and was he climbing?

Dave I was actually thinking Redback or some other sort of black widow, but the thorax is way too flattened for that. Doesn't quite look like a funnel web either - they are a lot hairier. I'm at a loss. I'd hazard a guess and say it aint from OZ. Dan

He was walking on a rock, going towards his tunnel web. So you are correct about the tunnel part. He looked pretty dangerous, so I didn't stick around to find out. Given the looks of him, and your description of both size, and his home, he sounds like a primitive, and they usually have the most dangerous and toxic venom from my experience.
